Aperativo Nedir?

What is Aperitivo?

Originally an Italian tradition, Aperativo emerged from the dining habits of Italians. Italians who have dinner around 9 pm head straight to bars after work. The time period called Aperativo starts around 6 pm and ends at 9 pm in which snacks are served alongside drinks at bars. In some places, snacks come in a fixed plate while in others, they are served buffet-style. During Aperativo time, customers only pay for their drinks and not for the food.

As a drink, a mixture called spritz, which is a typical Italian drink, is usually preferred. Spritz is made from Aperol, white wine, soda, and lemon, and there are variations with different flavors. Of course, there are also other drink options like cocktails, vermouth, wine, and beer, but Spritz is the most preferred traditional drink. It tastes great with the light snacks.

Thanks to the practice that is widespread in almost all bars in Northern Italy, people can relax and socialize after work. At the same time, the bar owner has the chance to earn money by selling drinks.

In recent years, some places in Istanbul have also started to implement this Italian tradition, and places have found the opportunity to do business during the quieter hours. Instead of just stopping by for a drink after work, it has turned into social gatherings with friends, including food.

Although it works like the discounted hours that Americans call Happy Hour, the concept is a bit different. Snacks are as satisfying and varied as the main course. Especially in the buffet-style ones, there are great foods. Since it is an Italian tradition, Italian-originated meals dominate the menu, but with the addition of Turkish meze and snacks, a richer buffet is created. The ones served on plates are not very satisfying because they are prepared more like appetizers. My recommendation is to go for the buffet-style. Otherwise, your dream of both drinking and satisfying your hunger may remain just a dream.
