Şeytan Seçmeleri: Starry Eyes

Devil’s Picks: Starry Eyes

Hollywood is a very complicated place. It’s really hard to become an actor there, or I should say, to become an actor in any country. You play a script that you’ve never seen before and try to impress a few people sitting in front of you. They say you can never become an actor, but you find a way to become a star. Many films have been made about this complicated path in cinema, but believe me, none of them have made such an interesting and crazy film. Starry Eyes is a critique of the steps that need to be taken to become an actor and reach fame in Hollywood. However, it is one of the most interesting films you can watch in recent years that tells this story in a very different and deserving way.

Sarah is a girl who burns with dreams of becoming famous. Although she constantly goes to acting auditions, she can never achieve what she wants. She can’t get the indifferent men sitting behind the camera to like the different characters she plays. Just when she is about to give up, one of the jurors says he wants to introduce her to someone. The owner of Astraeus Pictures, who takes a special interest in Sarah, begins to take care of her. But Sarah’s life starts to change after her relationship with Astraeus. However, this change goes in a disgusting direction.

The basic summary of the film is: In order to become an actor in Hollywood, you have to rid yourself of your own identity, take out the demon inside you, and become the person they want. Sarah is even willing to give herself up just to become an actor. But as time goes on, the changes in her start to scare her. Sarah becomes a sick person and gradually begins to turn into the demon the producer wants. What happens to her and what she experiences is shown on the screen in the style of a horror movie.

Actually, we can’t really call it a horror film, but I can claim that it is a thriller film. The idea of the film is absolutely great. However, Alex Essoe, the lead actress, says “I am here” with her acting, leaving the idea of the film behind. Alex Essoe, who plays a woman trying to become an actress, dazzles with her interesting acting in the film. Alex, who is a character ready to do anything for acting in the film, actually does most of it for real. In the scene where Sarah has to eat bugs, Alex really puts bugs in her mouth and actually throws up. Likewise, all the crying in the film is real. While trying to prove her acting in the film, Alex has actually achieved an ironic and surreal work by proving her acting.

At the gala of the film, which critics said would only happen if David Croneneberg and David Lynch made a film together, one of the viewers fainted, and the film was stopped for the audience. The producers who read the script of the film, directed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer, found the film “too demonic” and did not allow some parts to be filmed. I actually really liked the film, which many critics found surreal and perfect. They have processed the idea of how far you can go to become an actor so differently that it is impossible not to like and appreciate it.

In short, Starry Eyes tells the story of a woman who wants to become an actress and her transformation after meeting a demonic producer. Sarah eventually evolves into the monster Hollywood wants. The directors who shot the successful story they had in a very characteristic way received good reviews from critics. Personally, I am not regretful for watching it and was quite happy for introducing a woman like Alex Essoe into my life. If you are looking for an interesting thriller film and want to watch a very talented woman, I highly recommend Starry Eyes to you.
